Obituaries

Cyndi (Sturdevant) LaFayette, 63, of Belle Fourche, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born January 16, 1960, in Seattle, Washington to Gilbert “Lee” and Ynes Sturdevant. In 1966, her family moved from Washington to Miles City, Montana where Cyndi “grew” up before graduating from Custer County High School in 1978.

On September 10, 1978, Cyndi married her best friend Randy LaFayette and together they moved to Lake Worth, Florida. In 1979, the couple had their first son, Jason, before moving to Billings, Montana in 1980. In 1982, they added to their growing family another son, Ryan, and in 1985, their daughter, Megan was born. Other than working at McDonald’s and calling live keno at Doc and Eddy’s Casino for a short while, Cyndi devoted her life to her family at home.

In 1992, Cyndi and her family moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota where all three of her kids graduated high school. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for nearly 20 years.

She enjoyed playing card games, like canasta (where she always showed no mercy), camping, watching true crime television, and spending time with family and loved ones. Cyndi took great pride in her five beautiful grandchildren and will forever be proud of them in EVERYTHING they do.

Cyndi is survived by her husband, Randy, Belle Fourche, SD; son, Jason (Veronica) LaFayette, Belle Fourche, SD; mother, Ynes Sturdevant, Miles City, MT; brother, Tim (Joanne) Sturdevant, Terry, MT; sister, Julie (Lynn) Harbaugh, Miles City, MT; and five grandchildren Tate LaFayette, Rose LaFayette, Bryn LaFayette, Rayechael Ford, Jocelynn Ford, numerous neices, nephews, cousins, inlaws, and many friends that she considered family.
